In honor of its 35th Anniversary, Patron Saint Foundation Donates SUV to Union Station Homeless Services

In honor of its 35th Anniversary, Patron Saint Foundation Donates SUV to Union Station Homeless Services

Pasadena, CA– As part of the Patron Saint Foundation’s 35th Anniversary celebration, the organization donated a Honda Pilot to Union Station Homeless Services to transport residents of Centennial Place, a 142-unit permanent supportive housing building located in Pasadena. All residents of Centennial Place are formerly homeless adults, the majority of whom are seniors with complex medical needs.

Patron Saint Foundation made this special donation of a crossover vehicle to the homeless services organization as part of their mission to provide grants to public charities that improve the health of individuals residing in the West San Gabriel Valley.  With seating for up to eight people, the vehicle will transport residents to the grocery store, medical and mental health appointments, and other critical meetings.

The Patron Saints Foundation Board of Directors wanted to honor its 35th anniversary with a special grant award to reflect its mission of caring for the health of the residents of the West San Gabriel Valley.

“The purchase of a vehicle to transport residents of Centennial Place so they may receive health care services fulfills our mission because transportation is a barrier to gain access to the resources they need.  It is a very practical and lasting way to make an impact on many people in our community,” stated Alysia Carroll, Secretary of the Board of Directors, Patron Saints Foundation.

“Our van at Centennial Place broke down, and we were in urgent need of a new mode of transport for our residents,” stated Anne Miskey, CEO of Union Station Homeless Services. “Patron Saint Foundation knows that not having transportation can hold people back on their journey to wellness. Mobility means being able to go to doctor’s appointments or the grocery store to purchase healthy food.”

Union Station Homeless Services is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is committed to providing permanent solutions to end homelessness and rebuild lives. Headquartered in Pasadena, CA, Union Station has been in existence for almost 50 years. Union Station is the San Gabriel Valley’s largest social service agency assisting homeless and very low-income adults and families.  We are the lead county agency for Service Planning Area 3 (SPA 3), coordinating homeless services in 36 communities, with a combined population of over 1.5 million across the San Gabriel Valley. Our mission is guided by the belief that everyone deserves a life of dignity and a place to call home.  For more information, visit www.unionstationhs.org.

The Patron Saints Foundation evolved from the St. Luke Foundation which was created in 1979 to raise funds for the not-for-profit St. Luke Hospital in Pasadena. When the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange sold the hospital in 1986, they preserved the $2.8 million in donations raised to fund the Patron Saints Foundation’s endowment to maintain caring for the health needs of the surrounding community.  This endowment has grown to $15 million over the past 35 years.  With the careful and prudent leadership, oversight and dedication of the Board of Directors, the Patron Saints Foundation has provided over $12 million in grants to 171 public charities with 998 grants throughout the West San Gabriel Valley to continue the legacy of caring for the health of the local community.  For more information, visit:  www.patronsaintsfoundation.org.
